In 2019, a banana was duct-taped to the wall by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan at Miami’s Art Basel, and it was sold for $120,000.

Buyers at Art Basel certainly thought it was a-peel-ing.

Non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, are the latest cryptocurrency phenomenon to go mainstream. In the simplest terms, NFTs transform digital works of art and other collectibles into one-of-a-kind, verifiable assets that are stored on the blockchain.

The world of art can be crazy, incredibly beautiful and sometimes a bit absurd. “I decided to create this banana as a unique digital token so the collector wouldn’t have to replace it when it gets spoiled!” says Mehrdad Pourhassani Noenavaz, the creator of the Crypto Banana NFT.

The artwork is minted on Opensea platform as a dynamic video loop (link below) waiting for the art enthusiasts to make the best offer.
